Who in Charleston has not had at least one tale to tell about the iconic Blind Tiger pub located downtown on Broad Street?  Indeed who has ever wandered down that renowned historic street and not thought of the rich past times in Charleston’s most famous pub?  Hired by King Street Hospitality to complete a renovation of this popular, local favorite, our team at Luxury Simplified Construction have begun a large refurbishment project to restore the building back to its rightful position as an venerable place for locals and tourists to meet-up, relax and have a drink on a balmy Charleston evening.  So, read on for the first little secret from the “Old Speakeasy ” ….

We have begun to strip the accumulated additions and decay of the last generation or so.  Walls, kitchens, floors, wiring, doors, bars, gardens – it’s all headed for the dumpster.  Part of the work involved digging up the rear patio and, as luck would have it, we found toilets, or “cisterns ” as I prefer to say. These long-since unused receptacles are a great place to find evidence of our past. Often the best preserved of these artifacts are bottles that have their own tale to tell.

Pictured below are a sampling of just some of what we have unearthed up to now.  All are from the late 19th and early 20th century, some may be “prohibition era: ”

• Tenants beer bottles – Sheffield, England.  They are still in business by the way. 
• Maxwelltown Ginger Ale from Dumfrieshire, Scotland
• Stones Ginger Wine – I think that too is Scotland
• Coca Marina from Paris, France (or maybe Texas or Pennsylvania?)
• Dr Miles Restorative Nervine – Indiana, USA
• Kremil – ???
• Hoods Sarsa Parilla – ???
• Lidya E. Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound ???
