An island town has risen within minutes from Charleston, SC. It’s called Daniel Island and it is recognized as one of the most sought after places to live in the Charleston area. It’s a place where you are filtered from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities, yet you have all you need to live a full and active lifestyle. The majestic oak trees with their moss strung branches and the sun setting over the saltwater tidal creeks give you a feeling of a time when life was slower and everyone knew their neighbor. The small-town setting, where porches are wide and neighbors are friendly, promotes a tight-knit community. With the many churches, golf clubs, committees, and schools it is easy to feel involved.
The island is covered with 25 miles of well-placed trails for walking, running or bike riding. Much of them are placed along the ocean inlet waterways giving the residents incredible views of not only the water and marsh, but the wide variety of wildlife that comes with island living.
The island is surrounded by 23 miles of beautiful rivers and creeks which include the Cooper River, Wando River and Beresford Creek. Families enjoy boating, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and crabbing. Golfing your thing? Two private, nationally ranked golf courses designed by Tom Fazio and Reese Jones are part of the island landscape for your enjoyment. Also offered at the prestigious Daniel Island Club is swimming pools, tennis courts and croquet. This is truly a benefit to those who are outdoor enthusiasts.
Daniel Island offers three schools of the highest caliber including Daniel Island Elementary/Middle School, Bishop England High School (Private) and Daniel Island Academy (Private) for children aged 1 – 4 years old. A new Daniel Island Public High School is planned for 2017.
Daniel Island is also home of the Volvo Car Stadium (formerly the Family Circle Stadium). This is the location for the Volvo Car Open Tennis Tournament. This event draws some of the most talented women tennis players in the world including Serena Williams, Nadia Petrova and Andrea Petkovic just to name a few. In addition to tennis, the stadium is host some of the best outdoor musical concert events including the popular Southern Ground Festival and Charleston natives Hootie and The Blow Fish HomeGrown Concert.
Just 15 miles from historic downtown Charleston, 15 minutes to the Charleston International Airport and a 20-minute drive to the nearby beaches of Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms, makes Daniel Island one of the most convenient locations in the Charleston area. There are many diverse development projects happening on the Island as it continues to grow in both popularity and size. From adding new neighborhoods, like the upscale Nobel’s Point, to boutiques and shopping centers, restaurants, apartments and even a microbrewery. One of the most exciting projects is the new Daniel Island Performing Arts Center planned to open in 2019. It will feature a 450 seat Proscenium Theater and a Black Box Theater that will seat 99. This venue will add to the already vibrant arts culture of Daniel Island.
Daniel Island is a place that accommodates many different lifestyles. Whether you are a single young professional, retired, or raising a family, this place offers a way of life that suits everyone.
