Pathway with Spanish Moss Oak Trees

Daniel Island is one of the most sought after places to live in the Charleston SC area. This thoughtfully planned community is built on the premise of conserving natural landscapes for the enjoyment of the residences, as well as its impeccable attention to detail. A new development project is planned just across from Daniel Island on the other side of Beresford Creek in an area known as the Cainhoy Penninsula. It is to be inspired by the Daniel Island development, integrating some of Daniel Island’s key design principles.

This new development, which has been known as Cainhoy Plantation since the early 1800’s, will be the largest in the Charleston area encompassing over 9,000 acres of land and approximately 18,000 homes will be built.  When completed, the community will be home to as many as 45,000 residents.

The Daniel Island Company, Guggenheim Foundation and The Beach Company are expected to partner in this grand development, each bringing their distinctive development expertise and guidance to the project. The Guggenheim Foundation owns the Cainhoy Plantation property and also owned the land that Daniel Island was developed on.

This 9,000 acre property is off Clements Ferry Rd in Cainhoy, SC. Clements Ferry Rd is home to a thriving Berkeley County industrial area which includes manufactures such as Gildan and technology companies including SPARC and defense contractor CSI. There are plans to widen this already busy road to two lanes in each direction from Hwy 41 to Interstate I-526. This expansion is a necessity in order to accommodate all the new traffic from this massive planned development. The DOT project is scheduled to be completed by 2021.

In 2016 Berkeley County schools opened a new elementary, Philip Simmons Elementary School along the Clements Ferry Rd. corridor and a new Daniel Island High School is also planned to help support this new growth. The new high school is planned for 2017. The school will initially accommodate 1200 students with the capability to expand to 1600 students.

Bordered by the Francis Marion National Forest and the Wando River this area has long been recognized as the next truly desirable tract of land for growth and development, and offers substantial benefits due to its easy access to the Mark Clark Expressway (I-526) and the future expansion of Hwy 41.  The development of the Cainhoy Plantation project and the expansion of the Clements Ferry corridor is another sign of the incredible growth being realized in the Charleston and Daniel Island areas of South Carolina.

NOTE:  Many popular neighborhoods already exist in the area including Cainhoy Village, The Peninsula, Nelliefield and Beresford Hall, some offering waterfront living along the Wando River.  Discover these neighborhoods for yourself …
